Mission Aviation Fellowship Rolls Out PS Financials To Support International Charity Works

Christian charity organisation is using accounting software to manage financial operations across six countries.

Not-for-profit organisation, Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF), has gone live with an accounting and business management system from PS Financials. The system is being used to manage the charity's financial operations in the UK, Kenya, Madagascar, Tanzania and Uganda, and is also currently being implemented in South Africa.

Worldwide MAF is a team of aviation and communication specialists providing support to more than 600 Christian and humanitarian organisations. With a fleet of more than 130 aircraft and 41 bases, MAF pilots travel across rough, hostile terrain to transport missionaries, relief agencies and relief supplies to more than 588 million people across 30 countries that would not otherwise have access to the Gospel.

By implementing PS Financials on an international basis, MAF has been able to reduce its support costs, whilst the production of management information across the organisation is also being streamlined. In particular, MAF will benefit from the multi-currency functionality that PS Financials is developing, which will enable local offices to report in their own currency, as is often a requirement of the local authorities.

Ken Taylor , Chief Finance Officer for MAF, says, "PS Financials provides us with a flexible, user-friendly system, which easily copes with the number of users that we need at any one time. He continues, "The multi-currency functionality in PS Financials is a major benefit. We are producing our management accounts in US dollars but all of our international offices need to be able to record transactions in their local currency.. Dealing with international customers on a day-to-day basis we are receiving monies in various other currencies. We were impressed with the ability of PS Financials to handle multiple currencies and automate the conversion process.

The experience levels of MAF's finance staff vary within each country of operation and therefore the User Defined Input (UDI) screens within PS Financials are a key feature. The UDI screens provide easy and controlled input to the system by staff with different responsibilities within the organisation.

Moving forward, MAF is providing its business managers with web-based access to accounting information held within PS Financials, further extending the functionality of the system.

Commenting on the service provided by PS Financials, Taylor concludes, "We have found the PS Financials consultants to be motivated and keen to help us utilise our investment in the system on an international basis. We also like the fact that we are dealing directly with the software author which potentially means that we have a fast speed of response, and they take the time to listen to our feedback about the software with a view to enhancing future releases of the product"
